Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

November 3 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

GR: Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

> >Register Now <<

Speaker: Brian C. Kavanaugh, PsyD, ABPP

This presentation explores the development of iTBS interventions for adolescents with ADHD, beginning with the existing literature and a sham-controlled clinical trial. Working memory EEG findings and TMS network mapping studies will illustrate how neural measures may inform stimulation targeting. The presentation concludes with preliminary findings from an ongoing study of accelerated iTBS targeting the left DLPFC or right preSMA.

Key learning objectives include:

  • Summarize the evidence for rTMS and iTBS in ADHD, including clinical outcomes and limitations of the pediatric literature.
  • Describe how EEG measures and TMS network mapping inform neural target engagement and candidate stimulation targets for working memory and impulsivity.
  • Evaluate preliminary findings on the safety, feasibility, and clinical outcomes of accelerated iTBS in adolescents with ADHD.

About the Speaker

Brian C. Kavanaugh, PsyD, ABPP

Brian C. Kavanaugh, PsyD, ABPP, is a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist at Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He leads the Pediatric Executive Function, Cognition, and Neuromodulation (PECAN) Lab, where his research focuses on developing brain-based interventions for children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric disorders. His work integrates non-invasive brain stimulation, neuropsychological assessment, EEG, and functional neuroimaging to identify and modify circuits supporting neurocognitive deficits. He has led randomized, sham-controlled trials of intermittent theta burst stimulation in adolescents with ADHD and is currently investigating accelerated treatment protocols and circuit-informed stimulation targets.
