SUMMARY:EEG-guided TMS: the State of the Evidence
DESCRIPTION:> >Register Now <<\nSpeaker: Andrew F. Leuchter\, MD\nTreatments for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) act at different hierarchical levels of biological complexity\, ranging from the individual synapse to the brain as a whole. Evidence suggests that modulation of synchronized electrical activity in brain networks may integrate these different levels of complexity\, and may be central to the mechanism of action of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). Several lines of research indicate that electroencephalogram (EEG) recording during rTMS can help elucidate the mechanism of action of rTMS treatment. There is emerging evidence that EEG also may be useful in guiding selection of EEG treatment parameters. This presentation will review data on whether EEG guidance of rTMS treatment can improve treatment outcomes for MDD or other neuropsychiatric disorders. \nKey learning objectives include:\n\nDiscuss the possible role of biomarkers to guide TMS treatment\nUnderstand the rationale for EEG measurement of the effects of EEG treatment\nExamine evidence supporting the use of EEG to guide clinical treatment\n\nTake advantage of our live Q&A session at the conclusion of the webinar. \n*Registered attendees will receive access to the on-demand video recording by Friday\, September 4\, 2026. You will receive an email notification with instructions on accessing the video. You may register for the on-demand webinar any time after the live webinar. \nWhen: \nUSA - Sept 1\, 2026 at 8:00pm ET | 5:00pm PT\nUK- Sept 2\, 2026 at 1:00am BST\nAustralia- Sept 2\, 2026 at 10:00am AEST \nCost: \nMember: $25\nTrainee Member: FREE\nNon-Member: $50 \n> >Register Now <<\nAbout the Speaker \n \nAndrew F. Leuchter\, MD \nAndrew F. Leuchter\, MD\, is a Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Neuromodulation Division at UCLA. An expert on the treatment of mood disorders\, Dr. Leuchter directs the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Clinical and Research Service. This is one of the largest academic TMS program in the country and treats patients with depression\, OCD\, pain\, tinnitus\, and other neuropsychiatric illness. His research aims to develop novel treatment strategies and predict which treatments are most likely to benefit individual patients. \nDr. Leuchter has authored over 200 scientific articles on topics including neuromodulation for the treatment of depression\, EEG biomarkers to guide treatment of neuropsychiatric illness\, and theories of antidepressant action. He teaches internationally on TMS and other neuromodulation methods.
